When I was in the process of developing The American Reason Party website, my thinking was there was no other way to grow the party without charging membership dues. So I did.

I set the entire site up with a free membership level that entitled this type of member to communication with the party, but not much else. To really be involved with the party, one had to have a paid membership.

A member of The American Reason Party’s Facebook group recently brought it to my attention that perhaps this was not the best route to pursue. “Pay for membership in a political party?” was the question she put in my head; and it stuck there until I came to what was finally a “just” decision on how to handle this dilemma.

So from this point forward, membership in The American Reason Party is free. Period. We now have a system in place where members can become “donor members” of various levels, but all members – donors or not – are entitled to a vote in the system, the right to serve on committees, etc. Money can’t buy power among the reasonists.

Where we’ll come up with funding to begin advertising and promoting the group is yet to be determined. But I do believe that it will happen … eventually.

So go ahead … sign up. Invite your friends. Sometimes it may take awhile to get there … but we always arrive at justice in the end.

I’ve been making good progress on the newly designed website this week. The website is open for registration of members, both free and paid reasonist memberships. Application are also being accepted on the “Leaders” page for those wishing to have a significant role in the launch of this new political party. (NOTE: You must be a paid member to access the leadership application page.) The website should be completely finished within a day or two. Then … it will be time to get down to work, finding new reasonist members and raising money. Please help spread the word through your social networks, friends, family and co-workers.

I’ve decided to redesign The American Reason Party website. What I had simply wasn’t working for what we need from our website. The new web design will be easier for reasonist members and site visitors to navigate, provide more security for our members, and overall, be more functional. Please be patient as the site develops.
